This policy explains what wagr collects, why, and what we do with it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legalese, and to describe what the app actually does rather than everything it might conceivably do.
1Who we are#
wagr is operated by Federated Innovation Resource Management LLC (“wagr”, “we”, “us”), a Minnesota limited liability company. You can reach us at support@wagr-app.com.
2Who can use wagr#
wagr is not directed to children or to anyone under 18. It is for people aged 18 or over, in the United States, and you must confirm you are at least 18 to create an account. If we learn that someone under 18 has given us information, we will delete it — contact us if you believe that has happened.
3What we collect#
Information you give us
When you create and use a wagr account, we collect:
- your email address;
- your display name;
- an optional handle, bio, and profile photo; and
- a record of when you confirmed you are at least 18.
We do not ask for your date of birth, phone number, government ID, payment card, bank account, or any other payment credentials.
Information you create in wagr
We store the information needed to keep the shared records you create with other users:
- wagers you record — the participants, amount, pick, terms, outcome, and whether the people involved mark the wager paid;
- records of amounts users say are owed to one another;
- messages and trash talk;
- friendships and group memberships;
- mute and block lists; and
- reports you submit about users or content.
We also calculate information from these records — win/loss records, streaks, and trust indicators based on whether users report their wagers as paid. These reflect what users have recorded in wagr; we do not independently verify whether a payment actually happened.
Information collected automatically
When you use wagr, we collect limited technical information needed to operate and improve the app:
- a push-notification token, so we can send notifications you have enabled;
- screen views and feature-interaction events through Firebase Analytics, associated with your wagr account ID; and
- crash, error, and diagnostic information through Sentry, so we can find and fix problems.
We use this to operate the app, understand which features are used, troubleshoot, and improve wagr. We do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
If you join the waitlist on our website
When the beta is closed, wagr-app.com offers a waitlist instead of a download link. If you submit it, we store your email address, the date, and the campaign tag the link you arrived on was carrying (for example, that you came from a particular post). We use it for exactly one thing: to email you once, when a slot opens. We do not add you to a newsletter, we do not share the list, and you can ask us to delete your entry at any time using the contact address in section 10. You do not need a wagr account to be on it, and being on it does not create one.
Stored only on your device
Your appearance preference (light/dark) and which notifications you have already seen are stored locally on your device and are not sent to us.
4What we do not collect or do#
We think this is as important as the list above:
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers. We do not serve ads, do not share data with ad networks, and do not use our analytics for advertising or to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- No precise location. The app never requests location permission.
- No payment card, bank, or financial account details. We could not collect them if we wanted to — money never passes through wagr (see section 6).
- No address-book, calendar, microphone, or camera-roll access beyond a photo you deliberately choose as your profile picture.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
5Who else is involved#
We use a few companies to help operate wagr:
- Google Firebase provides authentication, our database and backend, push-notification infrastructure, and product analytics. Depending on the feature you use, Firebase processes your account information, the records you create in wagr, your notification token, and information about how you use the app.
- Sentry receives crash, error, and diagnostic information so we can identify and fix technical problems.
- Our sports-data provider supplies schedules, scores, and odds. We do not send it any information about wagr users.
- Venmo and PayPal are not part of wagr's backend. If you choose one of those options, wagr opens the corresponding app on your device, as described in section 6.
These providers handle information under their agreements with us and applicable law. We use them only for the functions described above. We do not sell personal information to them, use them to serve advertising, or use their services to track you across apps or websites.
6Venmo, PayPal, and money#
Anything you do inside Venmo or PayPal is governed by their privacy policies, not this one.
7What other people can see#
wagr is a social app, so some information is shared by design:
- Your display name, handle, and profile photo are visible to people you are friends with or share a group with.
- A wager is visible to the people who are party to it, and to members of a group it was shared with.
- Your record against a specific person is visible to that person.
We do not make your information public on the internet, and there is no public profile page.
8How long we keep it, and how to delete it#
We keep your account information while your account exists. Wagers are kept as a record for both parties — a wager involves two people, so removing one side's copy would destroy the other's record.
You can delete your account inside the app (Settings → Delete account). Deleting your account removes your profile, photo, private information, and sign-in credentials. Wagers you were part of are retained for the other person's record, with your side shown as “Deleted User” — your account identifiers are removed from them, though the wager's content (amounts, picks, dates) remains part of that shared record.
How long we keep other information:
- Analytics and diagnostic data are retained according to the retention settings we maintain with Firebase and Sentry, and are periodically deleted.
- Reports and blocks are kept while relevant to keeping wagr safe.
- Notification tokens are deleted when they stop working or your account is deleted.
- Residual copies may persist briefly in backups before being purged.
9Security#
Your data is held in Google Firebase. We use Firebase's access controls and other reasonable safeguards designed to limit each record to authorized users, alongside Google's infrastructure security. Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication; wagr does not store your password in plaintext.
No system is perfectly secure. Please use a strong, unique password. If a security incident requires us to notify you under applicable law, we will do so.
10Your choices and rights#
- Notifications — turn off in your device settings at any time.
- Profile information — edit or clear your photo, bio, handle and teams in the app.
- Account deletion — in the app, Settings → Delete account (see section 8).
- Access and correction — email us to request a copy of your information or to correct it. We will honour the rights you have under applicable law, including applicable US state privacy laws.
- Analytics — product analytics are collected as described in section 3; the app does not currently offer an in-app analytics opt-out.
- Because we do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, there is nothing to opt out of for those activities.
11Changes#
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect. The revised policy applies from its stated date; where the law requires your affirmative agreement to a change, we will ask for it.
